The Good Quad - Josef’s Birthday Edition
What: In conjunction with Matt Blacklock’s The Good Quad in Canmore. Eight year old Josef den Otter will be hiking four inclines in the Edmonton area to stand in solidarity with and raise funds to support children in Guatemala with learning challenges at Hijos de Dios Community Centre.
Why: Josef has been on his own journey trying to navigate learning with a neurodiverse mind. Getting a diagnosis and finding supports that are effective and honour who he is has been difficult and this is an opportunity to make that easier for other kids in a similar, if not even more difficult, situation.
Mr. Matt’s challenges have been inspiring and a great outlet for Josef’s amazing energy.
When: August 12th starting at 8:30 AM (I know that’s early, but it’s going to get hot later in the day). Josef will have just turned 8 the day before!
Where: We will be taking on a ‘quad’ of ‘peaks’ in the Edmonton area.
- We’ll start with tackling two peaks in downtown Edmonton including the stairs by Hotel MacDonald and Walterdale Hill 4.2 KM: https://onthegomap.com/s/knkpl57q
- We’ll head to the next peak, Mission Hill in St. Albert 1.3 KM: https://onthegomap.com/s/s3r45kmf
- The last peak will be the biggest hill I know of in Spruce Grove ending at Victoria park playground in Spruce village (1.4KM) where there will be birthday cake and hot dogs: https://onthegomap.com/s/bgg7g6tq
How: We welcome people to come and join the hike or to celebrate by sponsoring Josef: SPONSOR JOSEF HERE
All proceeds going to Hijos de Dios. Josef will also be donating some of his birthday money!
This won’t be as crazy as Mr. Matt’s 53km in the Rockies but it won’t be an easy walk in the park either! We should use up a good portion of Josef’s energy!
