The GOOD Run July 2011

I have been distance running since I was 10 years old. I remember doing my first 12km road race that year and almost beating my 14 year old sister who was an excellent runner. I have always enjoyed the thrill of finishing a race or a run whether it was because I did well, I got into the “Zone” or just wanted a chocolate bar and a bag of salt and vinegar chips at the end. I went from running track and field in the early days to ultramarathons today. I run because I enjoy it, I was created to do it, I want to use it to help others and because I am crazy. In the fall of 2010, I came up with another one of my crazy ideas; use what I am good at to help others and inspire others to do the same.

Fe Viva World Missions, the organization I partnered with needed more awareness and funds to strengthen their school in a poor gang area in Managua, Nicaragua (Colegio de Fe Viva) and I decided to start “The GOOD Run”. I was going to run an ultramarathon in the Rocky Mountains called The Sinister 7. It was 148km of mountains, rocks, mud, streams, darkness and pain. I had done ultramarathons before, but this would be my longest one that I ever attempted and I would be doing it for children in Nicaragua. I didn’t want to be the only one running and collecting money, so I challenged others to run as well. But not everyone likes to run (DUH!); a lot hate it, but they could do something else and collect funds that way. So what came out of The GOOD Run was also; The GOOD Ride, The GOOD Bike, The GOOD Cut and The GOOD Ice Tea Sale. People using their gifts, talents and skills to do GOOD and help others. So what turned into “The GOOD Initiative” raised over $15,000.00 to help the futures of 270 children in Managua, Nicaragua. Now for 2012 we are looking forward to bigger and better things. So read through the website and find out how you can be inspired to make a difference by USING THE GIFTS YOU HAVE TO HELP OTHERS and “OVERCOME WITH GOOD”.

The GOOD Ice Tea Sale: July 2011

Hi My name is Rachel Mundell. I am almost 10 years old and I live near Spruce View, Alberta. This summer, I sold iced tea on Canada Day and recycled some bottles and cans. I made over $165.00 that I donated to The Good Run, which my Uncle Matt ran. I had lots of fun selling iced tea and the people were very glad to give some extra money for a good cause. I hope many kids can be helped and blessed.

The GOOD Ride April 2011

As we were planning a motorcycle trip in USA, and talking about it with Grant, he made us aware of an  upcoming fundraiser called “The GOOD Run” 2011, and the fact that people and particularly children in Guatemala (Casa Esperanza Children’s Home) were raising funds for Fe Viva’s school in Managua, Nicaragua. This motivated us to see if we could raise funds and awareness of this ministry within our church family by doing a long motorcycle ride, called, “The GOOD Ride”. We prepared a cover page and printed off a sign up sheet, and Grant spoke at a morning service about what we were doing. The response was great, with many people supporting “The GOOD Ride”. Our motorcycle trip, along the Gulf of Mexico, starting at Florida through to Texas, visiting friends in Dallas, then back to the Ocala, Florida area was exciting and rewarding. It was great to be a small part of this fundraising initiative. We raised over $1500.00 for these children in Nicaragua and we trust the God will continue to place in our journey, opportunities for His people to show their love for the Body of Christ.

34 children running over 200km in 2 hours for 270 children. This was the very first GOOD Run with Casa Esperanza. The children rose to the occasion and ran their hearts out in the heat. What a blessing they are and they got cake.
